Global Disruption: Your Experiences During the Pandemic

A LUV/Scarsdale Public Schools Partnership for Grades 6, 7, and 8 Social Studies

Collaborate with students around the world to discuss the global experience during COVID-19

This course is an exploration and global exchange that will take place during Fall 2020. This WebMeeting is fully flexible and can be implemented in either a classroom or an online setting, making it an ideal choice for these uncertain times.

As the world is fighting against the COVID-19 outbreak, more than 130 countries closed schools nationwide, impacting nearly 80% of students globally. This is unprecedented; the world has never seen this many children out of school at the same time. Level Up Village is providing an optimal opportunity for two schools to connect together via Zoom Meeting to allow students to share their COVID pandemic educational experiences.

Level Up Village simplifies planning and preparation by choosing two schools for this global connection.

During this trying time, this is an opportunity for students to reach beyond their locales and:

  • Learn by reflecting on their own experience and listen to the experiences of others.
  • Practice communication skills as they exchange ideas with a global partner and build 21st century skills including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
  • Focus on being solution finders and taking action to implement change in the world.

This program is open to students in Grades 6, 7, and 8. Each participating group will be paired with another grade appropriate group of students outside their local region.

Pre-WOrk

Please share a school video, literature, or website with your partner so that they may learn more about your school BEFORE the WebMeeting.

Please choose 3-5 volunteers from your class to be “Class Speakers” to answer questions for their group.

Please have your students contemplate and be prepared to answer the following questions:

  • Before COVID, what was a typical day like at your school, home, and in your country for someone your age? Tell us about your school and where it is located.
  • How were you impacted by school closures during COVID? How was your family and local community affected? How was your country affected?
  • What ways did you address these challenges? Did you learn or adapt to new educational methods? How did you keep your spirits up during this trying time?
  • Did you distract yourself reading new books or playing games?
  • Did you keep in touch with friends using social media?
  • Did you take advantage of distance learning or find a new online educational resource?
  • What impressed you about what others did in your community during this time?

Do you have additional questions? Please submit them as pre-work before the WebMeeting.
