STUDENT PRIVACY NOTICE
This notice describes how Level Up Village (LUV or “we”) collects, uses, and discloses (collectively “processes”) the personal information of students participating in its courses.
DATA PROCESSING PRINCIPLES
Level Up Village provides online, collaborative courses to participating schools and other educational facilities (hereafter “schools”) around the world. We process the personal information of students only as required to deliver our courses to the participating schools. We will never use the personal information for other purposes, or provide it to third-parties to be used for any other purposes. For example, we will never use the information for marketing or advertising.
LUV requires that participating schools provide this Student Privacy Notice to the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of participating students. When students are under the age of 13, schools in the United States must – under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) – obtain verifiable parental consent for LUV’s processing of their child’s personal information. It is the responsibility of the participating school to obtain this consent, as set out in the LUV Course Registration Agreement.
We may occasionally use images, video, and audio of students on our website (www.levelupvillage.com) to demonstrate how our services work; and on social networking sites to publicize our courses. When we do so, we obtain the consent of the student’s parent(s) or guardian(s) through the participating school.
STUDENT INFORMATION THAT WE COLLECT
Level Up Village collects student information from participating schools, from the students themselves, and in the course of classroom collaboration.
INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS:
We may collect the student’s first and last name; school or personal e-mail address; and school-related information like school name, class, teacher, and LUV courses in which the student is enrolled.
Students may choose to share information about themselves via the LUV interface. This information may include, but is not restricted to, gender, birthday, avatar, country of residence, grade, and tastes in movies, music etc. Student-contributed information may be in text, image, or video format.
CLASSROOM COLLABORATION INFORMATION:
As part of the LUV curriculum, students exchange information with their collaboration partners. This information is primarily academic in nature, but may include personal information (most commonly video of the student, and the student’s first name and school). From time to time, students voluntarily insert information about themselves into classroom collaboration files.
DISCLOSURE OF STUDENT INFORMATION
To create and deliver the global classroom experience at the heart of our product, LUV may disclose the student information we collect to a limited number of third parties:
- The student’s Global Partner school, including its teachers and students.
- External course instructors occasionally hired by LUV.
- LUV’s service providers, for example cloud-computing or transcription services. Any personal information shared with our suppliers is protected by the terms of our contracts with them.
- Student-contributed information may be accessed by the student’s own school.
LUV may additionally disclose student information as required by law (for example, in response to a court order or a subpoena), and as part of a merger or acquisition involving LUV (for example, if LUV were to be acquired by another company).
Our courses are global. Student personal information collected and contributed in one country will be transferred to countries with different privacy and data protection laws. In particular, student personal data collected in the European Union will be transferred to the United States. Where required by local law, LUV requires participating schools to obtain parental consent to international transfer.
To maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of student information, Level Up Village uses industry-standard information security and operational best practices, such as HTTP over SSL, firewalls, roles-based access, and limited information retention periods.
STUDENT AND PARENTAL CHOICE
Students are not required to provide more personal information to us than is necessary to participate in the courses. Student-contributed information is optional, and may be deleted by the student at any time.
Parents may at any time request access to their child’s information; instruct us to amend or delete it; and opt out of any future processing by LUV.
Parents may exercise these choices by contacting their child’s school, or by contacting LUV by the means provided below.
Parents in the United States may find out more about COPPA at the Federal Trade Commission website – Protecting Your Child’s Privacy Online.
CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY NOTICE
Any material changes to this Student Privacy Notice will be communicated to participating schools and posted on our website.
If you have any questions or requests regarding our processing of student information, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
